What is Leonardo AI?
Leonardo AI is a production-grade creative platform for artists, game developers and marketers, owned by Canva since July 2024 but still running as an independent product. It is now genuinely multi-model, hosting its own Lucid Origin, Lucid Realism and Phoenix engines alongside third-party Flux, Seedream, Nano Banana Pro, Veo, Kling and Sora. Realtime Canvas, inpainting, 3D texture generation and training your own models all sit in one interface. The free plan gives 150 Fast Tokens a day and, unusually for this category, includes commercial usage rights. Token costs vary with GPU load rather than a flat per-image rate, so 150 tokens might mean around 22 standard Phoenix images or fewer than ten on a heavy model. Unlimited relaxed generation on paid plans applies only to first-party models; premium third-party models always deduct tokens. Paid tiers are $12, $30 and $60, and Essential comes bundled with Canva Business.
