What is Eight Sleep?
Eight Sleep turns an existing mattress into a temperature-regulated, sensor-equipped sleep system. A cover threaded with micro-tubing wraps your mattress, a bedside Hub circulates heated or cooled water through it, and each side of the bed operates as an independent zone, so two people can run dramatically different temperatures without negotiation. Sensors in the cover track sleep stages, heart rate, HRV, and respiratory rate without anything on your body. Autopilot, the AI layer, adjusts temperature through the night in response to your sleep stage and body temperature rather than holding a fixed setpoint, and handles the vibration and thermal alarm that wakes you without sound. Newer Pod generations add snore detection with automatic head elevation when paired with the adjustable base. The catch is cost structure: hardware runs into the thousands, and an Autopilot membership is required for the first year and effectively mandatory afterwards, since without it the cover degrades into an expensive heated blanket.
