What is Meshy?
Meshy is a 3D generative AI platform that converts a text prompt or a handful of reference photos into a PBR textured mesh in seconds, aimed at anyone who needs 3D assets faster than manual modelling allows. The core workflows are text to 3D, image to 3D, multi image to 3D, AI retexturing and automatic rigging with animation, and the current Meshy 6 generation pushed quality high enough that senior 3D artists preferred it over a leading competitor in a blind comparison. Models can be retextured in realistic, cartoon or hand painted styles, remeshed to a target polygon count, and auto rigged with motions pulled from a built in animation library. Exports cover the formats real pipelines use, including FBX, GLB, OBJ, STL, 3MF, USDZ and BLEND, and first party plugins push assets straight into Blender, Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, Roblox Studio, Houdini and ComfyUI. A REST API exposes every generation type for studios that want it inside their own tooling. The honest caveat is topology: Meshy is excellent for fast, strong first drafts and background props, but hero assets usually need manual retopology before they ship.

How to Use Meshy
✅ Best For
- Indie game developers who need dozens of background props and set dressing assets without hiring a 3D artist
- Concept artists who want to see an idea in three dimensions in a minute rather than blocking it out for an hour
- Prototyping teams that need placeholder assets good enough to test scale, framing and gameplay feel immediately
- 3D printing hobbyists who want a printable STL from a description without learning Blender or Fusion first
- AR and VR builders filling scenes with varied objects on a schedule that does not allow manual modelling
❌ Not For
- Hero character work that needs clean, animation ready topology, because generated meshes typically require manual retopology
- Hard surface mechanical assets with precise tolerances, where generative output tends to soften edges and details
- Studios needing guaranteed private ownership on the free tier, since free outputs carry a CC BY 4.0 attribution license
- Teams wanting scene composition or level layout, as Meshy generates individual assets rather than assembled environments
- Users who need unlimited generation, as credits reset monthly without rolling over and retries consume more of them
